Just when I think there’s no hope at all

Words kill, words give life;

    they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.

Proverbs 18:21, The Message

Another kid died by suicide, because he was bullied in school. Just like this one. This one too.  And it makes me angry.

I’m not sure what to do about it either.  The perception of anonymity thanks to an internet connection and small screens seems to make people feel that anything that can fly off our thumbs and  fingers is fair to post. Words–and responsibility for them– flashes into cyberspace and stays there forever. And since that was so easy, why not set up a cowardly website where it’s even easier to slam someone’s character?

They’re just words, right? A joke?  Sticks and stones and all that nonsense?  The problem is we’ve magically transformed letters, numbers and shorthand script into slanderous swords that kill.

We need to make better choices. One option is to join in to fit in, to up the ante and then up it again.  And young people will keep dying.

Another option is to  stand together for something better. These leaders did, and they are giving young people a chance .

Way to go, Coach.
