It’s Trigeminal Neuralgia Awareness Day, and the whole world is lighting up in teal.
Earlier this year I used trigeminal neuralgia as part of an ABC poetry challenge. The goal of the challenge was to write a poem where each line begins with a letter of the alphabet.
Agony sneaks in
Bolts of lightening
Defining days so differently.
Exactly how, and
For how long can
Gaggles of geese unfurl their wings so
Horrendously in confinement
Intruding where ideas once formed
Jettisoning rational thought
Killing minutes, hours, months because they can?
Learning new vocabulary
New terms offered
Optimistically by those who do their best to stop the
Pain. Fight the panic. Find the formula.
Quantifying tablets, qualifying times of day
Restricting wine and food and fun.
Succumbing once again to
Tympanic song cycles
Usually reserved for concert halls while
Xeriscapes on arid brow.
Yearning for the life before the
Zealous little beast.
